Birth Doula Support
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman and her family before, during, and immediately after birth.
Typical doula care includes:
- Prenatal preparation for birth, where the doula meets with the mother and her birth partner(s) to learn about the needs and desires of the family for the birth, and to provide specific information that may be helpful in achieving the family’s birth vision.
- Text/email/phone support throughout pregnancy
- Continuous physical presence during labor and delivery where doula provides emotional and informational support, provides suggestions for comfort measures and labor/birth positions, and helps facilitate discussion and understanding between the mom/partner and the health care providers.
- Immediate postpartum care and support during the first couple of hours
- Postpartum visit to see how mom, baby, and other family members are settling in.
